About Laboratory Technicians

Laboratory Technicians analyse a wide range of product samples to maintain our high standards of quality control.

"This job seemed an ideal way of joining AstraZeneca after A-levels, gaining practical experience whilst continuing my studies."

Technicians work in laboratories analysing product samples using a wide range of laboratory techniques including micro-processor controlled instrumentation. They then input the results into our Quality Control Information system so that the materials used in manufacturing can be approved. Technicians need to be scrupulously accurate to maintain high standards of quality. Tight deadlines need to be met so that the manufacturing process is not delayed.

What kind of qualifications do I need?

You'll need to be educated to at least A-level standard, in at least one science subject and/or maths depending on the particular technician role. Once you've joined us, you'll then receive 'on the job' training in laboratory techniques. You'll need to have an enthusiasm for science, a thorough, methodical approach to your work and the flexibility to change priorities to meet urgent orders.

What kind of career opportunities will I enjoy?

We support our Laboratory Technicians to study for HNC qualifications in either chemistry or biological sciences by attending day-release further education courses. In some cases, we also support them to go on and study for a degree. The way you develop your career is largely up to you - and the opportunities are there if you want to take them.

Where can I work

We recruit A-level Laboratory Technicians at both our Macclesfield and Avlon (Bristol) sites.
