About Human Resources
HR is the area of a company that has overall responsibility for the organisation and management of our people.
They work with managers to help plan for the future needs and direction of the business. They help to attract, recruit and select applicants for jobs. They also plan and present appropriate induction, training, and development for each employee and provide the necessary pay and employee benefit programmes.
What kind of qualifications do I need?
For most roles you will need to have a university degree, although your subject choice is less important than your ability to learn quickly, have great communication and interpersonal skills, and be well organised. You'll also need to have a friendly, approachable manner, as well as good 'influencing' skills, as you'll be advising staff at all different levels.
In addition, most HR professionals work towards a qualification with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and as an employee you can continue your development by reading professional journals such as People Management and attending relevant professional courses.
