"I believe that my initial 2 year apprenticeship has given me the foundation and knowledge necessary to perform in my current role"
I began my working life at AstraZeneca in the HR Learning and Development Group as an office Apprentice. Working for such a large company was a very new and exciting experience, and one that gave me a good grounding for the job that I do today.
I was lucky enough to experience work on many different projects and workshops with various colleagues in HR. Throughout my Apprenticeship I attended many courses, such as, Interviewing Skills, Outward Bounds, Presentation Skills, First Aid and many more. These courses gave me the knowledge and understanding of the skills that I needed for future positions within AstraZeneca.
I found my 2 years within HR truly rewarding and enjoyable. This I believe enabled me to progress to further roles within AstraZeneca.
After leaving HR, I moved to Cheshire Business Services in the role of Events Co-ordinator. This involved organising and participating in Scientific and Historical tours around Alderley Park. This role gave me a broad knowledge of many functions and areas within the Alderley Park site. I worked with a large variety of people (internal and external) from school children to scientists.
I also carried out PA duties and worked for the Cheshire Unit Helpdesk (gaining knowledge of the Catering, Facilities Management and Engineering work that goes on at Alderley Park) along side arranging the site/history tours.
My current job role is within RIRA (Respiratory Inflammation Research Area) as PA to the Director of Chemistry, also to support the RIRA Chemistry section (approx 50 members). In addition to my secretarial duties, I am the GEL administrator for RIRA.
I will take up a more extensive role in GEL (Global Electronic Library) shortly. This involves uploading documents onto GEL, once they have been checked against AstraZeneca house style to ensure that they comply to the appropriate GEL layout, to enable them to be stored in an electronic library for the appropriate person to read, amend and manipulate.
I am thoroughly enjoying my role within RIRA and believe that my initial 2 year apprenticeship has given me the foundation and knowledge necessary to perform in my current role.
