We're building a dynamic performance culture - one in which individuals and teams are rewarded for high levels of contribution and understand the need to grow shareholder value. Our annual bonus rewards our people with tax efficient AstraZeneca shares and cash in the range 0-20% of salary.
The bonus structure of cash and shares takes into account three different measures of performance which work together to calculate your overall individual bonus; corporate - function/business unit - individual/team.
Corporate
Based on earnings per share (EPS) target set by the company at the beginning of the year and announced at the time of the annual results - the proportion of the total bonus, which is driven by corporate performance, is 0%-8% of qualifying salary (the target percentage is 4%). This part of the bonus is paid in shares (subject to Inland Revenue limits).
Function/Business
Each function/business unit will develop its own targets in consultation with staff and agreed by the Senior Executive Team (SET) at the beginning of the year. The range will also be the same as the corporate element 0%-8% with a target of 4%. However, the bonus paid to an individual will depend on the individual/team element. This part of the bonus is paid in cash.
Individual/team
Targets will be agreed between staff and their managers at the beginning of the bonus year (January/February) and reviewed early the following year. Performance against these targets will determine a personal multiplier between 0 -1.5%, applied to the function/business team bonus, to reflect an individual bonus, which is paid in cash only.
Sales Incentive scheme
In addition to very competitive base salaries our sales force are eligible to participate in aquarterly and annual incentive scheme which is designed to reward extra effort resulting in exceptional performance.
