This is a company where science skills are valued, but you find purchasers come from very diverse backgrounds. I came to AstraZeneca after completing a degree in Business Information Technology.

Lots of my friends went into a career in sales but when I saw the 'Purchasing Graduate' job, I thought it would be exciting to experience a career on the other side of the fence.

I joined AstraZeneca at an interesting time, as purchasing was undergoing a huge transformation. The profile was being raised and purchasing was increasingly valued. This gave me the opportunity to excel within a dynamic environment developing my analytical and interpersonal skills.  

The job involves meeting both internal clients and suppliers negotiating contracts, negotiating deals, assessing companies, smoothing out problems or running projects.

AstraZeneca have supported me to study for further professional qualifications. I am currently studying for an Msc in Purchasing and Logistics at Salford University, this qualification will include CIPS, (Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supply) which is recognised globally.

The sporting facilities here are absolutely unbelievable. I am currently playing for the AZ football team and really enjoy the social aspect of the team. There is also a fantastic gym and 'Club AZ' arrange all kinds of activities from Rugby 7s to Archery.
