Degree disciplines: Msc or Phd Statistics (preferably Medical Statistics)
Our statisticians provide vital, statistical support throughout the lifecycle of each product we bring to market. From nomination of compounds through early volunteer studies, dose identification, regulatory submissions, and commercialisation, their knowledge and expertise add real value to the entire product development process.
To join us you need an MSc or a PhD in Statistics, together with the creativity and confidence to explore new ideas. Excellent communication skills are also essential as you'll be working as part of multidisciplinary teams, which means you'll often be called upon to explain complex statistical findings in simple terms to the rest of the team.
As a new graduate you would immediately become part of the Global Biostatistics Group and will work initially as a statistician. This role will allow you to provide support to a project team within a specific therapeutic area. During the first few years our aim is that you will gain experience in each of the three key aspects of clinical drug development: exploratory, regulatory and commercialisation
For you to become a well rounded statistician of the future, we believe that your career development needs to be planned to provide you with a wealth of experience.
Recognising the need for support in the early years, an experienced statistician will act as your coach/mentor who will work with you to identify and co-ordinate development activities which are targeted to your specific needs. Your development through planned work experience is complemented by providing you with opportunities to develop yourself through on and off-the-job training.
As you progress through the company you will be given the responsibility for specific clinical studies and subsequently a number of studies within a project. In time, you may also progress to become a global product statistician with responsibility for the statistical contribution towards the clinical drug development of a particular compound or a therapy area statistical expert with the responsibility for the statistical contribution within a particular therapy area.
Alternatively, you may choose to take on managerial role and become a biostatistics manager or focus primarily on the technical nature of statistics and become a research statistician.
