Charitable Donations
- Q1. Can AstraZeneca provide a financial donation directly to a charitable organisation I am associated with?
Under its UK Community Support and Charitable Donations programme, AstraZeneca can provide donations to charities and not-for-profit organisations local* to its key sites and which:
- improve healthcare and
- enhance science education and skills particularly in young people.
The programme is aligned with the AstraZeneca mission and commitment to make the most meaningful difference to patient’s lives through great medicines.
If your work falls within the core criteria above, please read the full donations criteria and consider applying for a donation online at: www.astrazeneca.co.uk/charitabledonations.Exclusions
Unfortunately, AstraZeneca is unable to fulfil all of the requests it receives, for example, we are unable to provide donations:
- To charitable causes, other than those which directly improve healthcare or enhance science education (e.g. sports initiatives)
- To organisations which fall outside geographical scope*
- Towards personal fundraising activity, or fundraising a third-party organisation is undertaking on a charitable organisation’s behalf (e.g. sponsorship of a fundraising event).
- Towards personal healthcare provision or a personal training course. As a gift in-kind (e.g. raffle prize)
*AstraZeneca can consider requests from charitable organisations which are based close to, or have a direct impact within, areas in which its employees work (i.e. Avlon in Bristol, Brixham in Devon, Cheshire, Charnwood in Loughborough, Edinburgh, London and Luton). Applications from charitable organisations outside of these areas can only be considered if they contain evidence of support from AstraZeneca’s UK Marketing Company.

- Q3. Will AstraZeneca consider charitable causes, other than those which directly improve healthcare or enhance science education, for a charitable donation (e.g. sports initiatives)?
- Unfortunately, AstraZeneca is unable to fulfil all of the requests it receives. Therefore, the Company focuses on areas which are aligned to its business objectives, by supporting charitable organisations which directly improve healthcare and/or enhance science. Please see Question 1 for further information about the support AstraZeneca can provide.
- Q4. Can AstraZeneca provide a financial donation towards my personal fundraising activity, or fundraising that a third-party organisation is undertaking on a charitable organisation’s behalf (e.g. sponsorship of a fundraising event)?
AstraZeneca is unable to provide charitable donations towards this kind of fundraising activity. Please see Question 1 for further information about the support AstraZeneca can provide.
- Q5.Can AstraZeneca provide a financial donation towards me personally (e.g. towards healthcare or to pay for a training course)?
AstraZeneca is unable to provide charitable donations to individuals. We can only make payments directly to bona fide, registered charities or not for profit organisations. Please see Question 1 for further information about the support AstraZeneca can provide.
- Q7. I would like AstraZeneca to promote, and/or fundraise on behalf of, a charitable organisation I am associated with (e.g. display posters, collection tins), is this possible?
AstraZeneca is unable to promote the fundraising activities of individual charities or to coordinate charitable fundraising activities aimed at its employees. We can only make charitable donations directly to bona fide registered charities or not for profit organisations. Please see Question 1 for further information about the support AstraZeneca can provide.
Support for educational institutions (schools and sixth form colleges)
- Q8. How can I request support from an AstraZeneca employee volunteer to support STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) education in a school or sixth form college I am associated with?
AstraZeneca works closely with STEMNET (the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network), the government-funded organisation, which provides the national STEM Ambassador programme.
Regional STEMNET Contract Holders act as brokers between educational institutions and industry partners. To request support from a STEM Ambassador volunteer (including AstraZeneca STEM Ambassadors), schools and colleges should contact the relevant STEMNET Contract Holder for their area.

- Q9. Can I request support from an AstraZeneca employee volunteer to support STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) education in an educational institution I am associated with, if the school/college is not based near one of your key sites?
Unfortunately, AstraZeneca is unable to fulfil all of the requests it receives. Therefore, AstraZeneca focuses its STEM Ambassador activities in schools close to its key sites, and if your organisation is based outside of these areas we are unlikely to be able to provide support.
AstraZeneca works closely with STEMNET (the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network), the government-funded organisation, which provides the national STEM Ambassador programme.
Regional STEMNET Contract Holders act as brokers between educational institutions and industry partners. All requests for support from schools and sixth-form colleges should be made through your local STEMNET Contract Holder. STEMNET work with STEM Ambassador volunteers from many different industries so if an AstraZeneca STEM Ambassador is unable to assist you, they may be able to identify a STEM Ambassador based in your area from an alternative company to help.

- Q10. Can AstraZeneca loan or provide equipment, and/or resources, to a school or sixth form college I am associated with?
AstraZeneca focuses on providing support to schools through employee volunteers, as part of the national STEM Ambassador Programme. Unfortunately, AstraZeneca is unable to loan or donate equipment.
If you are based close to a key AstraZeneca site, you may be eligible to request support from one of AstraZeneca’s STEM Ambassador volunteers or a financial donation towards a science project. Please see Question 1 for further information about AstraZeneca’s charitable donations programme. Or, alternatively, see Question 8 about how to request support from a STEM Ambassador.
- Q11. How do I request information about AstraZeneca’s work experience placements?
AstraZeneca provides a limited number of placements to pupils based near its key sites each year. For information please email tres@astrazeneca.co.uk.
- Q12. I am a student or pupil, how can I obtain information about AstraZeneca (e.g. careers, products, business structure)?
All publicly available information is on AstraZeneca’s websites (www.astrazeneca.com, www.astrazeneca.co.uk, www.inspiringcareers.co.uk). Unfortunately, due to the volume of requests we receive, we are unable to respond to requests for information to support school projects.
